چکیده

Pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Zlaten Medal) were grown on nutrient solution without nitrogen, and photosynthetic response of plants was examined by determination of leaf CO 2 fixation and chlorophyll and carotenoid contents. The absence of nitrogen in the medium resulted in a decrease of the leaf area and of plant biomass accumulation, and in an increase of the root-shoot dry weight ratio. The photosynthetic activity and chlorophyll and carotenoid contents decreased significantly under nitrogen deprivation. Examination of nitrogen deficient leaves by transmission electron microscopy showed dramatic changes in chloroplast ultrastructure. The proportion of starch granules and plastoglobules in the stroma matrix was increased and internal membrane system was greatly reduced. It seems that nitrogen plays an important role in the formation of chloroplast structure and hence to the photosynthetic intensity and productivity of pepper plants.

Coordination of carbon fixation and nitrogen metabolism in Salicornia europaea under salinity: Comparative proteomic analysis on chloroplast proteins.

Halophyte, like Salicornia europaea, could make full use of marginal saline land for carbon fixation. How the photosynthesis of S. europaea is regulated under high salinity implicates a significant aspect to exploit this pioneer plant in future. Measurement of photosynthesis parameters demonstrated the reduction of photosynthesis for the 0 and 800 mM NaCl treated plants are more likely due to n...

Photosynthesis, Nitrogen Metabolism and Antioxidant Defense System in B-Deficient tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) Plants

Response of tea plants to B deficiency was studied in hydroponic medium under environmentally controlled conditions. Plants height, number of leaves and dry matter production of shoot and root were significantly decreased by B deficiency. Concentration of chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and flavonoids was not affected by B deficiency in the young leaf, while a significant reduction of Ch...

ABSTRACT- The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of “Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi” (AM fungi) density and different growing media on the growth, photosynthesis parameters and yield of sweet pepper under greenhouse conditions. The experiment was conducted as a factorial plan based on control randomized design (CR...

Interaction of nitrogen stress and salicylic acid on the physiological characteristics of borage

Deficiency of nitrogen may lead to decrease in yield and yield potential of crop plants. An experiment was done under glasshouse conditions in order to investigate nitrogen levels and salicylic acid interaction on some physiologic traits of borage (Borago officinials L.). In this experiment various levels of nitrogen (including; 27.5, 55, 110, 220 and 330 mg/L from ammonium nitrate) and salicyl...

Does Chloroplast Size Influence Photosynthetic Nitrogen Use Efficiency?

High nitrogen (N) supply frequently results in a decreased photosynthetic N-use efficiency (PNUE), which indicates a less efficient use of accumulated Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco). Chloroplasts are the location of Rubisco and the endpoint of CO2 diffusion, and they play a vital important role in photosynthesis. However, the effects of chloroplast development on phot...
